Free newspaper archives

Given that bloggers point to newspaper articles that usually disappear behind a pay firewall within 7-14 days, I thought it useful to post a list of major news organizations that continue to offer free permanent archives. If you point to one of their stories, your pointer shouldn't experience link rot a few weeks or months from now.

Here's a far more comprehensive list from the Special Libraries Association News Division (thanks to Derek Willis for the pointer). You can find additional news-search resources at Britain's NewsNow or my list of research & reference tools.

I believe none of these newspapers archives Associated Press stories, which disappear behind a firewall on the AP's The Wire site. — J.D. Lasica
